INCLUSION EUROPE - The European Association of Societies of Persons with Intellectual Disability and their Families
Inclusion Europe was formally established as a non-governmental, non-profit making organisation in May 1988 and is committed to advancing the human rights and defending the interests of people with intellectual disability and their families in Europe. Structure: Inclusion Europe represents the members of Inclusion International in Europe and counts 31 members and networks in 30 countries. Founded in 1960, Inclusion International fights world-wide for human rights and social justice for people with intellectual disability and their families and is a close partner of the United Nations and its agencies. Aims: The main objectives of Inclusion Europe, are to : enhance the opportunities for people with a intellectual disability and their families to live as true European citizens with a right to equal opportunities and participation in economic and social development; encourage collaboration and an exchange of information between member societies throughout Europe and to determine common goals and areas of common policy; co-operate with like-minded organisations in the fight for social justice and to improve human rights. Activities: Inclusion Europe co-ordinates and promotes a wide range of activities in both the European Union Member States and Central and Eastern European Countries. These include conferences, working groups, training sessions and other information on relevant topics. It also compares legislation and services throughout Europe and encourages best practice to improve the lives of people with a intellectual disability and their families. The Association provides the European institutions and others with opinions and expertise on all issues concerning intellectual disability. Contacts:
