The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is the world's largest voluntary reproductive health care organisation. Founded in 1952 by eight family planning associations, IPPF now works in more than 140 countries, at local and regional levels to increase support for and access to reproductive health services. It is committed to helping women, men and young people to exercise their right to make free and informed choices about their sexual and reproductive health.
The European Network is one of six IPPF Regions. There are 800 million people in Europe, living in more than 50 countries. Cultural, economic and political environments are diverse, with varying degrees of knowledge about, and access to, contraception, abortion and related reproductive health services. The IPPF European Network's family planning associations (FPAs) are established in 32 European countries - the Network is working in several more. FPA programmes are as diverse as the countries within which we work.
The European Network's mission is to advance, defend and protect the basic human rights of all people to make free and informed choices in their sexual, emotional and reproductive lives, to strive for the development and provision within Europe of a range of accessible health information, education and clinical services of high quality.
The IPPF European Network is a registered charity, based in the United Kingdom and has a Liaison Office to the European Union in Brussels. The Liaison Office is charged to raising knowledge and understanding about sexual and reproductive health and rights issues within the European Institutions as well as improving the understanding about the European Union with its membership in the EU-Member States and those countries to become members of the EU. The Liaison Office also functions as a consultant to the Bureau in London and the FPA-members in Europe in regard to EU-programmes and budgets.
