The Constitutional Affairs committee adopted a report on ‘developing civil dialogue at EU level’. Drafted by Genowefa Grabowska MEP (Socialist, Poland), the report calls on establishing a structured civil dialogue between the EU institutions and civil society.

More specifically, the report calls for an interinstitutional agreement on civil dialogue and the adoption of binding guidelines concerning the appointment of civil society representatives, methods for organising consultation and the funding of civil society

The AFCO committee also calls on the European Commission to adopt a proposal for Statute for European associations and proper funding for civil dialogue and civil society.

The report will be adopted by the European Parliament plenary in January 2009.
