Social Platform publishes its contribution for a successful new anti-discrimination directive
[12/12/2008]

On December 5, three days before the European Parliament public hearing on the subject and ten days before the EPSCO council, Social Platform published a list of amendments on the new Article 13 directive on non-discrimination. For each recital or article under review, the document offers a realistic, concrete suggestion for revised text, together with a short justification.

This proposal draws on the expertise of the five European NGO networks working specifically on anti-discrimination supported by all the other European social networks representing thousands of NGOs across the continent. These networks have direct access to a wealth of ground-level experience from people confronting discrimination on a daily basis. Thus, while it has the support of the Social Platform as a whole, the document represents the consolidated views of those whom the new directive is explicitly designed to protect.

Adopting the views contained in our proposal will enable the directive to comply with international obligations, and will provide a solid basis for achieving fair, equal treatment for all living in Europe.
