European Trade Union Institute conference: Socio-ecological transition – A new climate for the EU’s sustainability transition

In this third conference of the ETUI’s new cycle on the ‘socio-ecological transition’, three European thought-leaders on sustainability will debate the foundations for a bold social-ecological vision for Europe.

Starting with a review of the latest findings of global climate scientists (5th report of the IPCC and the US 3rd National Climate Assessment), the three academics will provide the basis for ETUI to make the case for a new mobilising project of EU renewal.

Questions to be addressed during this conference are:

  • What is the state of the latest climate science and what are the implications for a climate deal in 2015?
  •  Can the EU go beyond its austerity policies and develop a new economic model based on prosperity and social justice?
  • What new EU governance structures are needed to address Europe’s socio-ecological transition?
  • Can Europe develop a new vision of the future which can re-mobilise its citizens?
