Social Platform to head to Riga in advance of Latvian Presidency

In advance of Latvia taking over the Presidency of the EU in January 2015, Social Platform is organising a civil society conference to discuss the social dimension of the Latvian EU presidency priorities. This event, set to take place December 8-9 in Riga, Latvia, will bring together a wide range of key stakeholders, including Mr Uldis Augulis, Latvian Minister of Welfare, as well as governmental representatives and Latvian and EU civil society. 

The conference will focus on three main areas of the Latvian Presidency priorities:

  1. Involvement of civil society organisations in policy making
  2. Social inclusion and combating poverty, with particular focus on the mid-term review of the Europe 2020 Strategy and its social targets
  3. Access to services of general interest, highlighting non-discrimination, quality and sustainability of those services, trade agreements

​Social Platform members will meet on October 16 to disuss further the draft agenda of the networking visit, which will be published at a later date.
