YES Forum met with Commissioner Navracsics

Because of the recent terrorist attacks, the Commissioner for Education and Culture, Tibor Navracsics, has invited different European Networks to discuss about the marginalisation and radicalisation of young people. The meeting took place on 23 April 2015 in Brussels. 13 different organisations (mostly European networks of civil society, university and a city) presented their experiences, the challenges and some recommendations for policy intervention.

The Chairwoman of the Board of YES Forum, Sterenn Coudray, underlined the importance of youth and social work, the international youth work, the role models for a social and professional integration of young people with fewer opportunities, who need perspectives. The most challenges are the few or lack of resources in the youth and social work. She recommended implementing the European youth strategy on the local level in cooperation with the cities, to develop the cooperation school-youth work and to put the social indicators of the Europe 2020 Strategy on the same level as the economic indicators in the European Semesters.

The exchange was very open and constructive. The Commissioner closed the meeting with the wish to continue the dialog, the Commission needs feedback of grass roots level to identify tools to tackle it.
