European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities: Webinar, ‘Child Guarantee – Making it work for children with disabilities’

22 April, 14:00-16:00 | Online

On 24 March, the European Commission launched its proposal for a Council Recommendation establishing the Child Guarantee, in the framework of the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan. The Child Guarantee aims to ensure that all children at risk of poverty and social exclusion have effective access to key services such as healthcare and education.

As part of the launch, the European Association of Service providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD) and Member of the European Parliament Dragoș Pîslaru are organising a webinar during which they will present the Child Guarantee and the results of the report “Assessment of funding models for a successful implementation of the Child Guarantee”. The report analyses the success of the Youth Guarantee in reaching persons with disabilities as well as the services supporting them, identifying any key lessons learnt. The author of the report, Rebeca Lucas, will present the challenges and bottlenecks faced as well as models of good practices. Katarina Ivanković Knežević, Director for Social Affairs and Inclusion at the European Commission, and James Crowe, President of EASPD, will discuss the Child Guarantee in light of the Report’s recommendations.

During the second panel, key stakeholders from the European Parliament, civil society and service providers will exchange their views on the impact of the Child Guarantee on children with disabilities and on the services supporting them. Confirmed speakers include EASPD Vice-President Karin Astegger, MEPs Brando Benifei and Dennis Radtke and Katerina Nanou, co-chair of Alliance for Investing in Children, bringing together over 20 EU networks to promote a multidimensional, rights-based approach to against child poverty and for child well-being.
