European Pillar of Social Rights and ESF+

Panel debate hosted by MEP Brando Benifei

28 January 2020 – 14:00 – 16:00

European Parliament, room ASP 3G2

In 2017, the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission proclaimed the European Pillar of Social Rights (‘Social Pillar’) at the Social Summit for Fair Jobs and Growth in Gothenburg, Sweden. This declaration will only bear fruit if implemented through legislation and policies, both at the EU and national levels. These future policies will need strong funding instruments to support them. The proposed ESF+ could support this concrete implementation of the Social Pillar, if it is given the adequate budget to reach the goals set in the Commission’s proposal. This issue is at stake in the current trialogue negotiation on ESF+ between the Council, the Parliament, and the Commission.

Social Platform and MEP Brando Benifei jointly organise this meeting to debate on how ESF+ can support the implementation of the Social Pillar.
