Organisers

“Amaro Drom e.V. („Our Way“) is a nationwide youth organization of Roma and non-Roma. The goal of the organisation is to create space for political and social participation of Roma youth through empowerment, mobilisation and self-organising. The association was founded in 2006 to show solidarity among Roma and non-Roma as well as speak out against racist politics and social racism. As a federal association, Amaro Drom offers a broad network of exchange and mutual support for six regional branches across Germany.

Amaro Foro e.V. (“Our City”) is intercultural organisation of Roma and non-Roma that works on creating a space for young people to help them in becoming active citizens through empowerment and participation. Since 2011, Amaro Foro e.V. is a member association of Amaro Drom federal organisation, the only Roma youth association that is successfully engaged against antigypsyism in Germany. The goals of Amaro Foro e.V. are to help children and youth to develop into responsible, consciously acting citizens with critical thinking abilities and who are ready to be an active part of society.

Description of the study visit

The contact point of Amaro Foro e.V. is a project for new immigrants from Romania, Bulgaria as well as other EU states. It is oriented towards the needs of these people and works as a bridge between existing offers and self-help activities of the target group. The main focus of service provision is mediation with existing support systems and regular services. We are searching for pragmatic solutions to offer realistic perspectives for migrants. The contact point is a first step in this direction, as it engages against segregation and for equal opportunities. Together with free advice, the contact point of Amaro Foro e.V. also offers the following services:

· Accompaniment and translation at social services, health institutions and city authorities;

· Consulting on other institutions or advice centres;

· Social work related to existing issues.

The visit will be hosted jointly by Amaro Drom e.V. and Amaro Foro e.V. We would like to present the activities of both organisations, especially the contact point of Amaro Foro e.V. During the visit, participants will virtually meet a staff member of the Amaro Foro e.V. contact point and a representative of Amaro Drom e.V. Participants will be able to find out more about its activities and learn about its contact point for Roma who come to ask for advice and assistance in the solution of their issues.
