Is the future of Europe inclusive and people-centric? 2017 gave us reason to be optimistic. We secured important puzzle pieces which could shape a European Union based on more solid social grounds.
The first is the European Pillar of Social Rights. The proposals put forward by the European Commission in April already incorporated many recommendations of Social Platform and its members. In November Social Platform members participated together with Heads of State and Government at the first Social Summit in 20 years. At the event the European Council, Commission and Parliament proclaimed the Pillar, under the slogan ‘People First’. We are now advocating for its implementation, and for similar Social Summits to be organised at least every 3 years.
