Europe’s social model is at risk. Despite being enshrined as a founding principal of the EU, social justice for all is far from a reality.
The race to build competitive economies threatens to leave social rights behind. Already underfunded and under-resourced, social rights objectives are set to be further deprioritised. The numbers speak for themselves: 20.0% of the EU population are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, and very little progress is being achieved.
Moreover, the democratic participation of those who represent and advocate for those most at risk is increasingly being undermined and delegitimised. The window for meaningful civil society participation in EU policymaking is becoming narrower, with fewer opportunities to balance out the perspectives and demands brought by large, well-financed lobbying groups.
The result is that disenfranchised and marginalised voices are being pushed further away with their needs unheard. In short, social progress is moving backwards.
To achieve real social progress, civil society can’t afford to be fragmented. That is where Social Platform comes in.

It is a must to ensure diverse voices remain present in EU policymaking at the earliest, most influential stages.
