Social Investment and Poverty Reduction in the next MFF

social investment and poverty reduction in the next mff ecard [24 10]

Co-hosted by the The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and Social
Platform

When: 20 November, 10:00-12:00
Where: European Parliament, Brussels, Room ASP 3G2

Following the publication of the proposal for the next EU long-term budget, the Multiannual
Financial Framework (MFF) on 16 July 2025, Social Platform aims to bring renewed focus to
the need for social investment and the measures that will be needed to ensure that Europe
‘supports people, strengthens our societies and our social model’ – as stated in the
European Commission’s political guidelines.

The MFF negotiations bring pivotal opportunities for advancing Europe’s social agenda. The
European Commission has committed to presenting a new Action Plan for the
implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and a Quality Jobs Roadmap later this
year, to be followed by the first-ever EU Anti-Poverty Strategy early next year. However, these
commitments come at a time of competing priorities where an emphasis on investment in
defense, security and competitiveness risks overshadowing social objectives.

This event will seek to focus attention on the vital role the MFF can play in helping to reduce poverty and to support and unlock national investment in social inclusion.
