Eurodiaconia: Eurodiaconia Assessment of the 2020 Winter Package

Early today [4 May], Eurodiaconia published its latest Assessment of the 2020 Winter Package.

This publication feeds into the European Semester cycle and aims to advise the drafting of the country-specific recommendations to be published towards the end of May. This is the last stage of the 2020 European Semester cycle. These recommendations will provide policy guidance tailored to each EU country on how to boost jobs and growth while maintaining sound public finances. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is vital that these recommendations focus on spending on social investments.

The position paper assesses the Country Reports published as part of the Winter Package on 27th February 2020. It gives a general assessment and a country-specific one, based on the input of Eurodiaconia members.

Throughout the Semester cycle, Eurodiaconia consults its members in order to determine the degree to which the Semester output reflects the situation in their own countries. This paper provides the opportunity to assess whether the input Eurodiaconia has provided during the year has been taken into account in the drafting of the Winter Package.
