The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts is a global organisation of 10 million girls.
The Europe Region is one offive regions of WAGGGS comprising all Girl Guide and Girl Scout Associations across 38 countries in Europe, representing over 1.1 million girls and young women between the ages of 5 and 19.
Mission
WAGGGS’ mission “to enable girls and young women to develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world” aims to empower girls and young women, as active citizens and provide them opportunities to develop leadership and life skills so they can become responsible citizens who participate in their local communities and all areas of society.
Activities
In order to achieve its mission, the Europe Region WAGGGS:
- Supports its Members in delivering quality non-formal educational programmes, training leaders and building strong Associations so that the needs of girls and young women in Europe are met and that they are made aware of their ability to influence processes and be empowered as active citizens.
- Promotes democracy, inter-cultural learning and equal opportunities between all young people regardless of differences, by organising specific activities on these topics but also generally ensuring that all our activities/programmes are inclusive, respect a gender and geographical balance, and wherever possible encourage the participation of youth with fewer opportunities.
- Promotes girls and young women as active citizens in their immediate and wider society by encouraging and facilitating their participation in decision-making structures and dialogues on youth relevant issues at all levels.
- Promotes training as an integral part of the work of Associations using non-formal, innovative and gender-oriented methods.
Throughout Europe, our Member Organisations are active within the communities at local and national level, and they work with young people on a range of specific issues, including adolescent health, adolescent pregnancy, girl’s education, HIV and AIDS and trafficking in girls and women.
Structure
Every three years all member organisations meet for the European Guide Conference where they evaluate the work done in the last triennium, discuss and establish the working plan for the upcoming 3 years and elect 6 members of the region to the Europe Committee who will then lead the Europe Region. The Europe Committee is composed by women comprising a percentage of young women under 30. Supported by the Europe Office, the Europe Committee is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the work plan until the next European Guide Conference.
