Statement following meeting with European Commissioner Helena Dalli

Social Platform statement following meeting with European Commissioner Helena Dalli, 25 February 2020

“Following our meeting today with European Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli, we commend her commitment to moving Europe’s equality agenda forward by mainstreaming and promoting equality and inclusion in all EU law and planned new policy and legislative initiatives.

“The EU will only succeed in creating inclusive societies if it puts equal treatment and non-discrimination at the heart of all policies. This also means that there is a need to better support women and men who find themselves in vulnerable situations, including those who are marginalised and discriminated against, or trapped in poverty or in situations of domestic violence and abuse.

“Organised civil society has a key role to support the European institutions in building a Europe that leaves no one behind. Social Platform’s network of 47 pan-European members represent tens of thousands of local and national NGOs working directly with people living in vulnerable situations, and we look forward to continue working with Commissioner Dalli to give a voice to those who are traditionally under-represented in EU decision-making processes.”
