Council adopts conclusions on ‘Strengthening Minimum Income Protection in the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond’

The Council adopted conclusions on ‘Strengthening Minimum Income Protection to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion in the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond’.

In times of COVID-19, the adoption of the council conclusions is an important and symbolic step for tackling and preventing poverty and social exclusion more effectively in the European Union.

At Social Platform, collectively with our Members, we have been advocating for the European Commission and EU Member States to move towards a legally binding EU Framework Directive. We believe that this will ensure that all national reforms set minimum standards guaranteeing everyone an adequate minimum income throughout their life cycle and access to benefits and services.

You can read our reaction to the council conclusions in our letter addressed to the European Commission and national Ministers of Employment and Social Affairs here.
