Council of Europe: New website launched on the European Social Charter

“Social rights are fundamental rights!”

That’s the message from the President of the European Committee of Social Rights, Giuseppe Palmisano upon the launch of the Council of Europe’s new website and Twitter account dedicated to the European Social Charter launched today on Human Rights Day.

The rights to housing, good working conditions, social protection, education, health, high-quality social services, the protection of migrant workers and protection against poverty and social exclusion are all covered by the European Social Charter, an international Treaty of the Council of Europe and a source of inspiration for EU treaties for its social policies.

“These rights are a burning issue, they are part of Europe’s DNA and their implementation is one of the solutions to the challenges facing societies in Europe today,” concluded Mr Palmisano.
